The Importance of Understanding Your Cholesterol Level

There are many reasons that it is extremely important to understand your cholesterol level. The first and foremost reason is that having a high cholesterol can make you prone to heart disease and/or stroke. A majority of the time, high cholesterol comes from poor dietary habits, and therefore can be managed by eating a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise.

There are two types of cholesterol, one being good and one being bad. The good cholesterol is HDL and the bad is LDL. The good cholesterol helps build cell membrane as well as certain hormones; the bad cholesterol in high levels will clog the arteries and cause a heart attack in due time.

A diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, high-fiber foods, lean meats and poultry, fish at least twice a week and fat-free or 1 percent dairy products and low in saturated and trans fats and cholesterol is a delicious way to help your cholesterol levels. A minimum of thirty minutes of physical activity four to five days a week is also recommended to keep healthy cholesterol levels. Avoid tobacco smoke at all costs when considering your cholesterol and health as well. These are a few natural ways to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and a great way to lessen your risk of heart disease.

All though it isn’t extremely difficult to maintain the healthy lifestyle to manage your cholesterol, as you can see it is very important to be conscious of your cholesterol level at all times. Remember, regular maintenance is always the best prevention of any disease. Once you have to treat a problem, it’s usually too late.

Get Know the Signs to Protect the Heart

The only positive remarks a person can make about a heart disease is how to prevent one from happening.

If you have not already done so, get know the signs of a heart attack. There is plenty of literature on the subject, either online or at the local library. Early detection, especially in the first hour, can mean the difference between the heart attack being fatal than one that was caught in time, maybe saving your life.

Becoming more aware of your body is signals by being more in tune with the messages it is sending to your brain, may help you to detect a heart attack from happening or greatly reduce the chance of a critical outcome. It is a good idea to stop ignoring chest pain, especially if it grows in intensity, and as the pain worsens, it begins to feel like someone placed a ten-pound weight on your chest. The pain can also begin to rise toward the neck and jaw area and continue down the shoulders to the arms, hands, and fingers. An experience like that is a huge sign that something may not be right. At this point you should try and reach someone.Heart Attacks

This may happen all the time, but if you are sitting then feel nauseated after arising and break out in a sweat, don not blow it off and think to yourself ‘I stood up too fast.’ This too could be an additional sign that a heart attack may be imminent.

Aspirin cannot be over looked for its healing properties concerning heart disease victims. Ideally, if a person is experiencing the symptoms associated with a heart attack and chews an aspirin within 30 minutes of onset of these symptoms, this can greatly reduce the impact of the damage that a heart attack can inflict. The qualities tied to aspirin that make it such a heart healthy aid is due to its anti-inflammatory attribute. If the arteries are “inflamed,” causing blockage, the aspirin will reduce the inflammation, and the blood will flow unimpeded to the heart, which is a quick fix, but nonetheless life saving. Clogged arteries would have to eventually be addressed by a doctor, but in the event of heart attack symptoms, chewing an aspiring can be life preserving.

Heart problems, however, do not have to be a painful practice. A heart disease can sneakily creep up on you and inflict you by sending no life-threatening signals such as a sudden hot flash with nausea or lightheadedness. If you experience signs of lightheadedness, with nausea, and sweat, it would be a good idea to let someone know immediately. It is better to be safe than sorry.
